Cheese Stuffed French Onion Burgers

Did I have you at the title?

Well IowaGirlEats had me at hers. I adapted this recipe from her blog. She never fails me. CJ and I enjoyed this recipe so much we ate these two nights in a row.

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 packet of dry onion mix
  • 1 large or 2 medium sweet onions
  • 1 Tbls butter
  • 1 Tbls olive oil
  • Fontina Cheese
  • Hawaiian Rolls (or whatever dinner rolls you like)
  • 1/4 c. water

Step One: Heat butter and oil in pan. Slice onions thin and add to pan. Cook over medium low heat stirring often until onions caramelize. (25-30 mins)

Step Two: Cut cheese into small bites

Step Three: Mix ground beef in a bowl with half (2 Tbls) of the onion packet and 1/4c. water.

Step Four: Make into small round balls. Place and indent in the center using your thumb

Step Five: Place a small square/rectangle piece of cheese in the indention, work the meat to cover the cheese and form a patty.

Step Six: Heat grill (I used my George Foreman), grill burgers to your liking.

Step Seven: Take off grill and put them on your rolls, top with cheese (if you want), onions and top bun.
